Affordable Healthcare
My #1 priority is the development and implementation of legislation and policy to control the spread and destructive impact of COVID-19 and provide affordable health care for Arizonans.
When elected I will focus on legislation that immediately provides health care coverage as part of unemployment compensation for laid off workers and small business owners impacted by COVID 19. As one of the 3rd worst (2017) states in the US for per-person ($9) health care spending, I would propose or support increased funding to the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS). I would also consider funding strategies to recapture any decreases in federal funding that may have lost during the 2018 transfer of behavioral health services from AZDHS to AHCCCS.
I strongly support continuation of Affordable Health Care Act, which is a vital resource in light of the current pandemic. I would also support strategic application of federal prevention grants, i.e., The Prevention and Public Health Fund (established by the ACA) to implement programs to improve health for all, including prevention of infectious diseases such as measles and influenza, and chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.
